The Sevignys were converting their apartments into condos and wished for a peaceful wildlife habitat within their urban setting to attract buyers. Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport requested a landscape design to blend several new additions into the surrounding neighborhood using native and sustainable plants. The chosen plant communities can withstand the difficult conditions on the site while echoing natural habitats from the local area. Beneath existing fir trees, plantings will create an impression of a woodland clearing; for the asphalt-surrounded island, an impression of an open field and low-growing thicket. The narrow peninsula has a park-like sensibility, with an inviting walkway surrounded by flowering shrubs, grasses & wildflowers beneath open trees . The combination of these three gardens creates a sense of place and a connection to the natural landscape. ©N. Masi 2007 |

The Father Sears Memorial Park Committee chose this design for the memorial park because it addressed all of their desires: use of native plants well adapted to the habitat, attractive to birds & butterflies, provides a welcoming feel, preserves marsh views, & offers a sense of peace and tranquility . ©N.
